Trunk lid badge position measurements, help please.
« on: August 24, 2013, 17:30:20 »
I have a new trunk lid the old one unfortunately has long been disposed of. Can anyone please give me the measurements for the placement of the "230 SL" and the "automatic" badges for a 1965 car. If someone could just measure on their car from the left edge of the trunk to the edges of the two badges and from the lower edge of the trunk to the lower edge of the "automatic" badge. Also the distance between the top the the auto badge and the bottom the the 230 SL badge. I really need these measurements so the holes can be drilled and the trunk lid painted.
Thanks.

Since I could not find these measurement posted anywhere, Michael Salemi helped me out and was able to get a contributor to his book to measure her car and provide them to me.
So here they are and some photos of her car with a measuring tape as well in case anyone else may need these.

From left edge of deck lid to 230sl badge: 2 9/16"

From bottom of deck lid to 230sl badge: 2 7/8"

From left edge of deck lid to Automatic badge: 1 7/8"

From bottom of deck lid to Automatic badge: 1 3/8"

From baseline of 230sl to top of Automatic letters: 3/4"

Too late now for John but just in case this question comes up again here is more info.
MB published instructions where to drill holes in a new trunk lid for the 230SL badge and a member of the German group added the location of the AUTOMATIC badge.

Hello,

Just for anyone attempting to drill the holes for the automatic badge based on the sketch labeled Geklipste Ausfuerung. I don't think it is correct. At least in my case the hole pattern in the sketch doesn't match the badge pattern nor does it match the instructions in red.

I believe it will depend on if you have an original badge or a reproduction.  Reproductions will often have different pin locations for securing the badge , and may also have a different number of pins.  You are best to position the badge in the correct location and then mark the pin locations on your own badge for drilling purposes.
