Thanks for the words of support.
After much discussion with my insurance company they have finally settled and paid me out (4 weeks after it was stolen!)
mylo, sorry for the three year delay on answering this! Apparently I forgot to subscribe, but I was wandering today and noticed my mistake, hopefully you're still around!
Fortunately, the first time the car was stolen it was recovered. This was in LA in the back when my parents owned the car and before I was born. Unfortunately, the thieves had stripped most of the cars best parts: chrome, interior, seats, half the engine, etc... What was left was the frame and basically all the electrical/body panels. Insurance paid to have it fully rebuilt at the time.
The second theft attempt didn't get that far. My mom used the car as her daily driver and used to frequent a bowling alley on sundays for her league. Everyone knew my mom and her car and one evening when the owner of the bowling alley went outside to smoke, he saw two guys in the car trying to jimmy the ignition. He shouted at them to get out of her car, they told him to mind his own business and so he (the owner of the bowling alley) ran inside to tell my mom/call the police/and get his baseball bat. He ran back outside with my mom to find the two would-be thieves halfway down the parking lot trying to push-start the engine. They abandoned the attempt and ran off into the night. Again, insurance paid to replace the ignition and other assorted parts they damaged in the failed theft.
There was a third, more brazen attempt in a parking lot a few years ago, but that also failed once they noticed the lo-jack on my keys.
