Washer pump - original?

Hi all, I'm in the final throws of getting my 66 230sl ready for my annual pilgrimage to Le Mans in a few weeks and I noticed my washer pump doesn't work. I've seen VDO replacements but they don't look like mine ( see pic). I've read a few posts about very early cars with this pump but am not sure if my pump should be like the ones you see for sale now on eBay etc. What's people's opinion on this and can it be rebuilt?

You probably won't get much furthur than getting the bottom cover off as it appears to be rivited together.  The two most likely failures are the impeller has destroyed itself of washer fluid has leaked into the motor both of which mean it is probably shot anyway.  The later pumps are used across many makes and models of cars.  I would assume the same for that pump.  There is probably a new one out there in a dusty box.  Is there any markings on the pump you have?

I'll order a later one anyway, I was interested in retaining originality if possible,  I'm sure it's the same pump as is mentioned in the below thread.

I did find the same pump in an early Ferrari thread.  I am sure if you found one it would be very expensive.

Good news! I've fixed the pump. It turned out to be seized, I removed the end plate and cleaned and lubricated the little brass gears. I then spent 15 mins manually turning the motor gear until it felt easier to spin. Eventually the motor started to turn and within a minute or so it was us to full speed. Quite chuffed I managed to save it really, normally I would throw away but I'm sure it was the original pump from the car.

Your washer pump is correct. 8)

There were (according to my vague memories) three different series of pumps for our cars,
and of course only the last one (the A108 869 0121) is today available - a very common practice for MB parts.

If you still have the original one, be happy since these are more or less not more able to come by. ;) :D

BTW, on the metal back lid of the pump chamber of the whole unit there is usually a "VDO" inscription and a production date (something like 11.66) visible. ;)
