Wiper Motor Problem

I have a 66 230SL and the wipers don't work. Relay clicks but nothing else. I've now removed the wiper motor and connected it to a live feed (from the battery to the number 4 pin on the motor) but it's not turning. I've removed the bottom of the motor and it's well greased. I've just removed the top of the motor (the long bolts) and it's pretty mucky in there. Does anyone know if it's possible to recondition these? If i remove the electrical innards will I be asking for problems? Any advice on what to try next would be much appreciated.

Mine packed up an age ago and I know I ended up buying a new unit from the US. Though dismantling the old one would have been beyond my skill set.
You'd think they could be refurbed - or have the innards replaced with a new unit

Thank you for your generous offer. Ive been tinkering this afternoon. I should have realised the motor was parked so with the negative fixed alongside a live the motor turned. The problem is either the relay (which I've taken apart and seems ok, if a little sticky) or the connections inside the motor plug (sorry for the bad terminology but I can't think what it would be called). I can't see a way into this apart from through the motor itself. I'm going to have a go tomorrow and take some pics incase this fixes it and anyone else has a similar problem

I have the same problem looming. My wipers didn't work although I haven't tested the motor as yet. I want to strip it so I can get the casing replaced, any information you could share would be gratefully received.

This motor is the same on some Mercedes finback sedans of the era.

Motor is working, wiper mech is free, relay is working, stalk switch is working. Put them all together and......nothing.

Really scratching my head now!

Is it completely dead? No move at all? Or does one cycle and then goes off?

Have you double check the wiring? Do you get power to the motor? Are all the grounds there?

Have you checked all the wiring connections with respect to the wiring diagram shown here in the technical manual ?
I agree with Pawel, it may be a poor earth connection.

You might want to check the internal switches inside the motor . These are designed to start/stop the motor at the right position...they could show some wear or burn in damage.

When you say "relay working", have you checked the load side of the relay under load (hooked up to the wiper circuit)? Relays can test fine with a multimeter but the load contacts fail when they are put under load. Try filing the contact points in the relay.
