1966 with ZF 5 speed engine
« on: August 30, 2017, 15:24:55 »
Hi all. I'm new. We have a 1966 230SL with a 5 speed (ZF) racing transmission that our family has had for 40 years (second owners, bought in Germany). I'm trying to research value, and realize that the engine may make the car more rare and unusual. I would be grateful for any advice, suggestions or input on how to proceed. It has both tops, all original and a "kinder" back seat.

First, welcome!

The 5 speed is rare and desirable but there are many other aspects of the car that might make it more or less valuable.  You may want to consider coming to our event in Greenwood (near Charlottesville) Virginia in two weeks.  50+ cars and many experts present.  They can give you an expert assessment of the car.  If you are interested, here is a link:

Also important is
whether your car was delivered with ZF-5 speed or not.
What does the datacard say?

Furthermore,
what is a ZF (5-speed) racing transmission??
There was no "racing" transmission as such for the Pagodas available. Only the optional ZF-S 5-20 gear box, option code 230. Nothing else.
So, please check accordingly. There must be a dataplate on the left side of the gear box.
What does the type number read there ?
