how do the side parking lanp work ?

I have 1971 German euro model , the front and back side markers were added when the car came to the USA. when I put the light swith to the 2 position to the left the side markers sould work as the owners book says but don't. are the internals of the switch the same on the Euro model?

Erick,
Those lights only come on when you out the running lights on(first click clockwise) and remain on when the headlights are on(second click clockwise).
They do not come on when you click counterclockwise, only the front in the headlight pod and the taillight one on.
