Traveling to PUB
« on: September 13, 2017, 04:54:41 »
We departed Birmingham under a heavy sky late this morning.  The program was to cover half the distance to Charlottesville and overnight in Kingsport, TN where we had booked a hotel.

Thanks to Irma we traveled in light to heavy mist as far as Knoxville.  My car hasn't been so throughly soaked in many years.

After Knoxville the rain stopped, the clouds lifted somewhat and we thought we would cruise into Kingsport before dark.  But, it was not to be.

We were flagged to a stop on Interstate 81 about 35 miles short of Kingsport.  Apparently there was an accident about half a mile ahead and we were blocked in a mass of 18 wheelers.  Darkness fell and we there we sat for two hours.

Finally we were turned out of the motorway through an entrance ramp and turned into a two lane narrow country road to continue our drive. Our trusty gps came to the rescue.

To make a long story short, from the time we were flagged down until we reached our hotel 35 miles away, four hours passed.

We are hoping for a more pleasant journey on to Charlottesville tomorrow.

Looking forward to a great get together at Ramsay Farm later in the week.

Fuel flow regulator that I need for my Pagoda is stuck in Jacksonville, Florida and doesn't look like I'll have it in hand by tomorrow.

So unfortunately will arrive without my Pagoda, but I still hope to learn a lot and meet some of you interesting people.

Will probably leave early Fri AM ( 5ish ), and will have Glympse location sharing running under tag #PUB2017

Unfortunately, I did not get my engine back into my 280SL yet, so it is still waiting in the garage. My wife and I came down in her E350 and spent a couple of days in Williamsburg. Just arrived in Charlottesville this evening.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Traveled North yesterday leaving parts of Jacksonville still flooded.  My home and business are fine...now.  North on I-95 to I-77, overnight in Orangeburg, NC and into Charlotesville this afternoon.  The roads were clear and the rain was just enough to really put the road grime on the fenders.

Cheers!
