The casette door marked "Stereo" is missing, I think it is the same as the door on a Becker Mexico.

Nice option to have. The only issue I have with the glovebox tape player is that it won't fit in the glovebox of a Pagoda. It has to be "hung" underneath the dash.

Wow!   Just got my Europa back from Becker getting refurbished and getting an ipod adapter installed.   At first, instead of sending back the Europa, they accidentally returned a cassette player like this ...I had no idea they even existed!

I thought about getting one of these at one time.  I was going to gut it out and somehow hinge the face plate so that I could put an MP3 player in it.

Yes some of the earliest versions were not even stereo! I just got one in a Mercedes parts sedan. I have not had time to remove it and see if it works yet.

I have that option in my 280SL. It needs servicing but yes it was an early option from Becker which could be mounted under the dash if you did not have air conditioning or in the globe box. My father made custom wooden consoles with a storage compartment and one of the Becker cassett unites for his 450SLC. The storage box and cassett holder were done in wood varnished with a lockable top lid for storing extra cassetts and the Mercedes-Benz hood badge on top. The installation was very simple. I have this on top of the raffers at my office in a box one day I will take it down and show some pictures of it.

Just curious, but when was this an option on the W113?  The cassette was not introduced until 1965 and then only as a voice recorder.  Does any one know when the first automobile application was?  When did Becker introduce to Mercedes?  I would be surprised if it was in the W113 years, but I don't have any foundation for a claim either way.  Besides, I want my 8-track back.

G, you just missed it.
When I bought the 1967 230SL (now 220SL), it had a brand new 8 track in the dash and the wiring was not even hooked up yet.  I tossed it out.  Then I bought a 1963 230SL (now sold) it too had an 8 track with a locked glove box.  I managed to unlock the lid and found a bunch of tapes in there along with a bunch of inspection reciepts for the car and a pair of cats eye sunglasses.
I think the cassette player attachement was only for 1969-1970 years.  1971 it moved to within the radio itself.  Check with the becker radio website.

A cassette deck is a type of tape recorder for playing or recording compact audio cassettes. A deck was formerly distinguished from a recorder by containing no amplifier or speakers for direct listening, except a headphone jack. The deck is connected to a sound system for playback. The two terms are often now used interchangably.

My kids just found an old electric typewriter in the closet recently and wanted to know what games they could play on it!

I have one of the Becker cassette players mentioned in this discussion, included with the car from the PO.  I've become motivated to mount it into my '70.  I don't have air conditioning, so it will fit nicely under the dash.  Does anyone know if there is a bracket out there somewhere made to hang this deck, or should I fabricate one that works?

Craig,

I've seen a couple of brackets for that model, the Becker "Olympia" cassette player. The simplest bracket is an L-shaped bracket on either side of the unit.

I recently mounted the Becker Olympia cassette deck into my car.  Gernold provided advice about how to mount, and it went smoothly. (Douglas: I did find the mounting brackets... :oops: )

It works great!
