Steering wheel and stereo restoration contacts
« on: October 30, 2017, 21:53:30 »
Hi all,

Can someone direct me to a contact for restoring my steering wheel please? The plastic is cracked so I would like it removed and recast if possible.

Also, looking for contact for servicing my stereo with possible upgrade of phono connection.

Is there somewhere specifically I can look in forum?

Regards

Koenigs in Germany might help on the radio, though I vaguely recall someone in the UK who did this but it was ages ago in my case.
Why not have a chat with any of these folk: http://www.agentaaudio.co.uk/index.html or http://www.tadpoleradios.co.uk/Default.aspx or http://vintagecarradio.co.uk/repair--restoration.html to see if they can help/point you in the right direction
Though I am not sure I'd refurb an old unit but get a new unit that does what you want it to but looks old. https://www.classiccarstereo.co.uk/ or a Retrosound (available in the UK). I went down the mp3 into an old Europa route and never got on with the result. Some do. One solution is to leave your unit "as is" and put a hidden modern unit somewhere (under a seat) and have that wired in.

As for the steering wheel, I think folk here have done that themselves in some cases https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=23615.msg168863#msg168863 (search results: https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?action=search2 )

Hi James,

Thanks for your feedback.  This weekend I shall spend some time digesting the links to repairing the steering wheel, to be honest the stereo isnt as much a priority.  I havent even checked if it works as is yet.  Again, I shall try this at the weekend if I get the chance.

Could try this - http://beckerautosound.com/classic-becker-radios/3126819 - refurbished Becker units with Bluetooth added. Also check eBay for same...

My experience with Becker Autosound has been good. I just ordered a radio for the 280SL from them- getting one from them which was already restored was actually cheaper than the (unrestored) ones I found on eBay. The 113 radio, the Europa, is not the same as the one for the 108/109 car and other contemporaries. I suspect they are the best shop for Becker radios, because basically it is all they do now.
