Here is a link to an interesting story about a Pagoda 6.3 hybrid project.  There are also many pictures showing the progress of this 280SL as it is modified.

This is the guy from Florida that I was telling everone about a few years ago. I never heard back from him and wondered if he was still around. I know it's the same guy because he sent me some pictures of his Coupe.

He is in fact from Florida.  I too have seen pics of this car on two other websites.  Must be one hellauva ride!

As you may know, the factory built a couple of 6.3 Pagodas as test vehicles. Here'a link to a discussion of V8 and 6.3 engines.

though I haven't found much yet to give you links, there was an auction in Paris a year or 2 ago (auctionneer Poulain Le Fur) where they sold an interesting Mercedes collection, including a 280sl 6.3 that might have been one of the MB prototype (I remember it was a white one). I tried the Poulain Le Fur site, but you have to pay to get acces to older sales results.
I unfortunately don't have much time to do the search right now, but one might be ablt to find pictures of this car.
