C250 W204 Engine swap to Pagoda W113

I'm considering a restomod W113 and seems like the turbo 1.8L W204 C250 engine and trans is a natural size, weight, horsepower fit for the Pagoda.

Others must have considered W204 C250 engines, given they can be purchased for less then $3K.

If you doing it strictly for money purposes, I think the value of your car will drop quiet a bit. Probably more that it would cost you to rebuild an original motor.

I was actually considering the W204 swap for hot rodding the W113.  Probably fanciful if the the W204's 1.8L engine's 7-spd auto trans will fit.

I owned a C250 with this engine for a few years until it was t-boned by a red light runner.  It was a fantastic performer and punched above it's weight in performance.

I take it that the 1.8 liter is a twin cam four cylinder? What's the HP and torque ratings?

Yes it's a 1.8L twin cam: 201 hp @6100 rpm    Torque: 229 lb·ft @ 2,300 – 4,300 rpm

The turbo comes on fast and strong.  The torque curve is nearly flat across the RPM range.  Thinking was compact package with weight similar to legacy W113 engine. The 7 speed 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission is terrific.  It would make a nice smooth powerful package for the W113.  great to give this classic car more Merc power without making it nose heavy.

The M271 engine block is aluminum with cast iron/steel cylinder sleeves. Im sure it weighs much less then the original M127-130 pagoda engine. I thought about one of those from a C to transplant into my 89 VW T-3 Westfalia

The C250's M271 engine is turbo charged with an aluminum block and heads, 4 valve per cylinder dual overhead cam, and with forged reciprocating bottom end parts.  2009 onward this engine had direct injection.

The C250 is about 200lbs lighter than the Pagoda, with a 0-60 of about 6.5 seconds. Where the M271 engine shines is touring driving, exactly the style of the Pagoda.  Imagine the Pagoda with 50-70mph passing times 1/2 of stock with this much additional torque.

Kind of surprised with these engines with under 40K miles selling for about $3000, that it has not been used for transplants.

You would need a complete donor car for a swap to work. Engine management, fuel system, wiring harness, security interlock etc.

Probably the biggest non-Starter ill be getting the transmission to fit.  The original transmissions for you car are both very compact and short.  you might have to do a lot of cutting to get a bigger transmission in there.

I would suspect that the transmission should fit without too much modification as Mechatronik have fitted the M113 V8 motor and beefy 5 speed auto into the W113 without any structural modifications.

I personally love the idea of restomodding with the M271 motor.......imagine using the A45 version ie M133 with 280kw output !!
