Tool Kit Verification - Pliers and Lug wrench with a Hook

I have just verified what I have right and what I have wrong in my tool kit. quite positively surprised, actually:
- I, obviously, have a wrong bag, but this I am addressing
- I have the wrong 129 pliers
- I do not have the short fuses, but I have regular seats in the fuse box... I will probably look for the short ones

But I have the lug wrench with the end as on attachment. There are Mercedes Benz markings on it and Klein marking.

I cannot find the proper pliers anywhere. I do not think that this lug rench is correct for my car (March 1970). I am not sure if it is a fair offer, but I could swap this wrench for correct pliers. Sorry if this is not a fair trade offer - I am not sure how rare are both items.

As I have discussed here in earlier posts my tool kit was stolen in shipment in 1970 and I repurchased my present one from the local MB dealer later that year.  My Lug wrench appears to be the same as yours. See attached.  The part number however does not match either of the technical manual part numbers.  Seems to be a combination of the two numbers!!? I do not know when the hooked end was discontinued so I don't know if mine is correct for Jan 1969 build.  Perhaps someone can advise.

You are correct the proper lug wrench for your car would be part # 120 546 0246 without the hook.  There are two versions of that wrench according to our technical manual.  one has a hook and one doesn't but both share the same part number.  The wrench is an easy find as it is the same as a sedan of the same era but the "300" slip joint pliers with the Mercedes star are going to be tough as they are SL only.  I think there may still be some new old stock 300 pliers floating around but a couple years ago the ones with the star dried up.  If memory serves I paid a rediculous amount for the "star" ones I bought.

Notice how the handles flare away from each other at the ends.  The 129 pliers bend in the same direction. This is a good thing to keep in mind when searching eBay etc.  You can search images faster that way.

I think the purpose of the "hook- end" on the early cars (230SL, 250SL) was to remove the "hub caps" from the wheels.  With the later full wheel covers, the blunt ended lug wrench was used.

I was going to check Authentic Classics for spare fuses (I saw they had a box). I will buy them. I need to wait till I need something more from Authentic Clasic - shipments cost what they cost..., but I will get them. Good tip on the ends of liers handles, thank you!

Pliers - yes, I am developing  a good eye slowly for those pliers. I read fellow members writing they are difficult to spot. I have sen the listing in Authentic Classic, but I think I can wait till I find the proper ones.

I think I will posy in Wanted to Buy about the pliers. If it is a fair deal I can also swap the lug wrench for the pliers.

Ralph, attached is what EPC says about the lug wrench numbers for 113044.

If it is a "5" in your part number there and it is A1205810246 - it is the wrench that replaced some previous version A1205810046, which starts in 113042. I have no idea about hooks being on and off on these.

So EPC will tell you:

A1205810046 for 113042, 113043, 113044
A1205810246 for 113043, 113044

The number from tech Manual A 1205460246 - this EPC does not recognize, unfortunately.

We should not trust the EPC 100%.

I am 99% certain that the Hooked Klein Lug wrench was discontinued with the last 250SL.  May have been stragglers in the bin, but the Dog Bowl hubcaps and trim rings were done with the last 250SL.  The successor Lug wrench is plentiful out there for less than $30USD on ebay.

The Heyco 300's with the Star are almost impossible to find.  I bought what I think was the last traunch of them, and I only have a couple remaining.

The stubby fuses are best bought from Authentic Classics, but they are pricey.

Pawel, thanks for the EPC information.  The part number on the lug wrench in my Reply #2 above is in fact 1205810246 even if it is not completely clear in the picture. 

I have a second lug wrench with the blunt end that I took a look at today. 

About 5 years after I bought my Pagoda I bought a new 450SE (W116).  In the late 1980s I sold the W116 to my brother when I moved to Singapore.  Unfortunately, a year or so later while being driven by his wife, it was hit from behind by another vehicle and damaged beyond repair and was therefore scrapped.  Last year knowing that my brother would never leave tools in a car being scrapped, I asked him what happened to the tool kit from the W116.  A few days later he delivered a plastic bag to me containing four Mercedes-Benz open end wrenches, a Mercedes-Benz spark plug wrench and two bladed screw driver, the oscillating hood (bonnet) ornament from the W116 and a Mercedes-Benz lug wrench.  The blunt end lug wrench is pictured below. 

As you can see it is also a Klein with part number 1205810246 embossed on it but it has a blunt end instead of the hooked end. Apparently I have a proper lug wrench after all!

As Shvegel was writing above: we see we have two types of lug wrenches under the same part number. The idea might have been to end the hook end with the end of previous type of hub cups, but maybe they just exhausted the stock of hooked ended wrenches making them part of 280SL kits until the stock lasted.

I do not know why I do not see the part number from Tech Manual there...

Ok, I found what I needed. German e-bay offers a lot, the search terms are the issue sometimes. Maybe I was lucky.
