Applying paint dots
« on: January 30, 2018, 23:23:48 »
Hello,
As I am rebuilding and reassembling components, I am looking for help finding the right tools or means to apply the paint dots. I was looking at below valve actuated markers.
  http://www.markal.com/liquid-paint-markers/valve-action-paint-marker/

To the members that have re-applied theses paint dots on axels,  springs....:
What did you use to apply the paint dots? Actual paint? Markers?....
As always appreciated.

The factory used a brush and (thick) paint.  I use the same, as I work to replicate the colour dots

this pic answers one of my questions from my yellow versus silver cad post. It shows the brake and gas lines as silver.

Dirk, this shows how thick the brush was.  Not sure why they would tag the floor insulation.  Brake line is also tagged.

Yup, the dotting of the insulation is probably a bit questionable. I am reading up on current insulation or sound dampening material. I recognized that the wiring for the light switch on your car is actually underneath the insulation. Interesting, I would have put it on top.

Probably just that the worker dropped his/her brush. One can often see blobs, paint runs and very weak markings etc. which to me is a bit of the charm with this; telling that the paint marks on our SL:s were put there by humans (who are fallible) and not robots  :)  They made some 20 cars per day only, it was indeed a semi hand-assembled vehicle

Home Depot sells a perfect sized round brush in their paint brush dept.  I think it is used for faux finishing.  I will be home in a couple days and will post a picture of the package.
