In the beginning the 230 SL
« on: February 03, 2018, 14:08:58 »
This was posted on Facebook this morning, worth sharing I think. .

Comfort and driving safety This name alone leads to the love of the love of the journey: "pagoda", with exotic Asian notes and warm climate. Most people were longing for sun in the centre of Europe in 1962/63, which seemed never ending. Mercedes-Benz 230 SL created this excitement at the Geneva International Auto Fair in March 1963 The Two-seater convertible, known as w 113, became a model that separated from the others with elegance, driving performance and security. 230 SL is the first sport in the world-wide fixed passenger cabin with a safe safe in front and back crash zones. Béla Barényi's expertise in car body safety was used for the first time in this way by the designers of Mercedes-Benz who care about security.

He took his name from the shape of his name. The curved characteristic of the removable coupe ceiling is one of the factors that increase passive security: the shape of the concave provides more traction despite the slight weight of the car. It did not take long for the new SL-series to be known as the "pagoda" in the new SL-Series, designed by Paul Bracq, and the far ceiling of the far east. With the direction of the designer Friedrich Geiger, a modern car was designed with clear and difference lines, which was a cult car for the convertible car fans, and it was like the continuation of the success of the SL 300 and 190 series.

Sir Stirling Moss said in a letter to racing director Alfred Newbauer, " I don't remember any other model that I would like to have outside of race cars for years."

An automobile that takes its genes from luxury segment The technical basis of the roadster comes from luxury 220 se known as " Tail (Tailfin) The Ancestor of the s-Series, the shortened and reinforced roof - left the floor assembly to inherit sports cars as it was in the front and rear suspension system. The engine of 230 SL also formed the development of a 150-HORSEPOWER FLAT 6-cylinder m 127 engine used in the new SL-series in 1963 The arrival of the new heir to the higher capacity of 230 SL was fast: in late 1966, 250 SL was replaced by the 230 SL, the last version of the w 113 in 1968 SL took his place in the market. Each 3 SL Model would be preferred as a sports car with a folding soft roof or a removable coupe ceiling. As an alternative, both ceilings are in the same position together.

Rolf-Dieter,

The comment from Sir Stirling Moss is quite complimentary considering he would have said that just after the end of his racing career. He also drove for (according to Wikipedia) Cooper 500, ERA, Lister Cars, Lotus, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Vanwall single-seaters, Aston Martin, Maserati, Ferrari and Jaguar.

Thanks for sharing.
