Help 230sl real axle shaft removal
« on: February 17, 2018, 05:45:16 »
Hello more experienced pagoda peeps.
I am concerned watching YouTube videos on taking the axle out. How much pounding with a sledge hammer do I need to get this thing out.? I have used some if the techniques such as chain link and 2x4 and a long bolt advancing through a 2x4 to help push the axle out, with no success. I am tentative because I don't want to break or bend something. I am going to buy a slide hammer next.
Can someone reassure me?  Any other techniques? Any bolts I am missing to remove?
Thank you
Dave

Make sure you have all the backing plate bolts removed. Seems like I remember that the drum brake cars have an additional long bolt from behind holding the backing plate in place.
