Color of the Rocker panels/Sills
« on: February 19, 2018, 21:25:37 »
The color of the Rocker panels/sills is dark grey/black.
The code mentioned in the different discussions is DB 169. When I look-up this color I get DB 169 = Stone Grey Light. See picture.
This does not come near dark grey/black.  I’m I wrong? Should the color code not be same as the trunk color DB 164?

According to Brian Peters at Motoring Investments who I place a great deal of faith in the rockers and sills are black.

Shvegal,
With all due respect to Brian Peters, there is good evidence in the link that you posted that at least the early cars had dark grey rocker covers, possibly DB164 like the inside of the trunk possibly with a different gloss.
Since we have no serial number break showing it changed to Black, at this point, I choose to believe that the rockers were dark grey all the way to the end of the Pagoda production.
It is hard to tell the difference unless you are looking for it.

No offence taken.  I think Gernold’s statement that he had personally inspected 5,000 mile 280SL’s carries some weight.  Regardless I doubt anyone will be losing points anytime soon.
