Propshaft rubber damper
« on: March 02, 2018, 13:44:33 »
Hi all,

I have bought replacement rubber for my prop shaft but the new one has a hole in it. Can anyone advise which way the hole faces  (front or rear).

Front from what I remember. That hole is for a grease fitting which a sealed bearing won't need.

Ah that makes sense, thanks.

Now for next question.  Can you remember how to remove the aluminium housing? ( P/no. A1804130201).  I want to replace the bearing while I have it in bits.  I assume I need a bearing puller.

Regards

I think there's a large snap ring that you need to remove. Bearing will press out without too much force.  Make sure to mark all of the parts of your drive shaft before you take it apart so that balance is not affected. It should come apart and go back together in the same positions.

Hi,

I removed the large snap ring this allows me to take off a large cup washer and I was hoping it would allow the aluminium casting to slide off but it's not coming off without a fight. I cannot see anymore snap rings so assume there is only one. May have to try some heat next time I am in workshop.

I have marked the parts I could prior to removal using dot punch.

Thanks anyway.
