55th Anniversary!
« on: March 12, 2018, 01:07:54 »
55 years ago… The Star was born!

Time: March 12th, 1963, Tuesday. Place: Geneva, Chateau des Eaux Vives (eng. White Water Castle).
Two days before the start of the Geneva Salon 1963, the presentation of Mercedes W113 for the press took place.
Automotive journalists had the opportunity to see as the first the newest Mercedes product.
Taking advantage of the presence at birth, they gave the new child a great name: Pagoda.

After 55 years, it’s still doing well. Who knows, maybe even better than ever before...

Happy Birthday to Mercedes Pagoda!

Enjoy! https://youtu.be/BnDa9QLMY04

PS. Look at the door handles at 1st picture...

And also note that they had not painted the dark grey on the lower body panel in that what looks like a drawing.

It was on the 11-3 1963 not 12-3 1963,
because it is a (W)113 not a (W)123 ;)

Here is another pic of the orange 1963 Geneva-Paul-Bracq-Béla-Barenyi car.  8)
The pic was recently discovered by someone else here (Artur, Pawel ??)

Achim,
why not give credit where credit is due and call it the Geiger-Barenyi car?  :(

Might be worthwhile reading PW 15 again! 😊😊

Alfred,

Is there any way you can post that group of four sketches as separate attachments?

Thanks

Dear Alfred,
That's not what I meant. :)
I was only referring to that orange-colored 230SL with the black hard-top with Paul Bracq and Béla Barnenyi in front of. The later Fritz-Nallinger-car.  ;)

Of course I do not deny the great (exactly: the major/main) design work designer-in-chief Friedrich Geiger performed on the Pagoda shape .... P. Bracq only "modified" the hardtop into the Béla-Barenyi-style.

Instead, I was referring to that DB 574-colored car (orange metallic !!) because I "believe" that car is still alive and identical with serial no. 000009. But since I cannot confirm properly right now, some more background research is first necessary.
Very exciting for me  ;) 8) - but of course not so much for the utmost others here :-\ ... (boring)...

Best,

Achim

Thanks for the explanation Achim!
Now Friedrich Geiger can RIP. ;)

And thanks to Dieter for separating the panels and posting them individually.

Dear Artur,

Yes I must have ,,, did not recognize your last name when I did copy it from Facebook.

Nevertheless the "The Classic Mercedes-Benz and SL Appreciation Society" was also part of the share and I gave credit to that fact in my post.
