Renovated injection pump in exchange in Germany?
« on: June 27, 2018, 17:24:48 »
Hello again, following my previous thread the car has been in the workshop for about 1,5 months now and my mechanic has tried everything, so now the only possible offender left is the injection pump. There are quite a few specialists in Germany, who supply renovated pumps on an exchange basis, but do any of you have recommendations? And is there anything that I need to be aware of? My car is an 1964 (registered 1965) 230 SL.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated as I'm getting increasingly eager to get my Pagoda rolling again ;-)

Just make sure you get the correct R11 pump and it comes complete with the wax thermostat that is not used on the later style pumps used on the 280s.

That's the only one that works on a 230SL pump.

Hi Ulf,
members of the German Pagoda forum (pagodentreff.de) recommend these specialists to check your pump:

Hi ulf,
There are a few companies working with this accurately and you have to be carful from the rest , one of these companies which I personally met and dealt with is Koeller & schwemmer (Mr rainer stahl ) email Rainer.stahl@de.bosch.com .
I usually ship to them parts from Kuwait to Germany .

Good luck .
Taleb .

It looks like an R11 based on the oil line check valve and size of the thermostat housing but I would certainly ask the seller to make sure.

Hi,

As Peter, I can also strongly recommend Hans at https://www.oldtimer-technik.eu/
Last year a friends 230 SL pump needed work, so we sent it to him for a check.
It needed a full service and came back in perfect working order,
with very detailed test protocols and specifications what was done to the pump and its accesories. The turnaround time was quite good. Great communication througout the process.

Thanks for your advice, here's an update. I'm checking up on the pump available in the UK immediately - both with the seller and my mechanic. If it checks out, I'll order it and then ship the old pump to one of the experts you have recommended for a full restoration and then sell that on eBay to recoup some of the expenses if there are no issues with the one from the UK :-)
