seal on auto trans oil level check pipe

I have been cleaning under the car using old rags just wiping off years of built up grime. I am not degreasing the car because I believe that a film of grease/oil will not do it any harm.

While under the car I found a drop of auto trans fuild on the oil fill/ oil level check pipe fitting.

Is there a seal between the auto trans oil fill/ oil level check pipe fitting and the pan?

The mechanic 2 years ago repositioned the pipe because he said the top of it was in the wrong position.

RHD car.

After he did this the leak started. There was no leak previously.

I cleaned with rags the exterior of the pan and all around and I just took the little one for a drive.

When I returned I checked the under side with a torch and mirror and there was that drop of fluid.

Note there are no drops on the garage floor.

Hello Bob,
The picture in the parts book shows a flanged nut on the bottom end of the pipe, no seal.
It probably fits onto an adaptor with an 'o' ring but gearbox details not to hand.

Hello Bob,
A fitting is screwed into the steel tranmission pan. There is an aluminum seal ring between this fitting and the pan. The filler pipe screws onto this fitting and has no seal. It is a copression fit like many of the fuel and oil lines on the car.

This connection should be double wrenched. In other words loosen both filler tube before tightening the fitting using a wrench on the fitting and one on the filler tube. The inside fitting must be tightened first then the filler tube is tightened while holding the second wrench on the inner fitting to keep it form moving.

A skinny wrench is needed to hold the inner fitting. Be aware that spring back from the filler tube may cause the fitting on the pan to loosen over time so try to tighten everything up while the filler is in the right position. The filler tube has a bracket which holds it in  the proper location at the top(hooked to intake manifold). If this is missing the tube may be vibrating around enough to loosen itself over time.

The aluminum sealing ring usually can be re-used if correct and not damaged. However the part number is 007603 014100.
