Relay rubber grommet
« on: October 24, 2012, 20:23:07 »
The special rubber grommets that attach the relais in the engine compartment of our cars deteriorates with time.
I obtained the repro part offered by Wally Wheeler in this Forum

I was pleased with them, and I want to illustrate
Legend:
1. This is what many of these items look like in our cars, if not worse
2. A very well preserved original grommet
3. The brass insert on its own
4. The repro part offered by Wally
5. Repro part with brass insert installed

Picture 2 shows one original, one repro installed onto a relay
I think it is great that within our circle of enthusiasts here, an individual is taking the effort to produce such an item and make it available

I agree Hans,

I have done it to two of my cars and have kept a couple for future as well.

It is a nice effort by Wallace and the relay decals are also excellent.

I just saw this thread and thank you for the compliments. I developed these parts because I wanted my tired relays to look new and I wasn't happy with the visual quality of the new relays. Plus I didn't want to send my perfectly good relays out to pasture just because of how they looked.

The transfers were duplicated from an original relay, so they look like they did in the 60's. I have to purchase the transfers in large lots to be economical and I am nearing the end of the second lot. Not sure if I will order again, so let me know if you want any soon. I actually make the grommets, so I can produce those as needed.

This site has provided me with an incredible amount of help and advice on my W111, so I am more than happy to be able to give something back as small as it may be.

By the way, Wallace:
the set you sent me is first class. I had the grommets installed and the relays cleaned. They look great. Once other renovation works are done we will apply the decals..
many thanks

Hello Wallace,

I am also currently having fun with my relays and would like to replace the perished rubbers. Would you be kind enough to pm me with details so I can order some as well if that is possible.

Kind regards

Just to let everyone know, I no longer have the relay transfers, though I still have the rubber grommets. There is a person who is taking my place selling the same transfers. If you are interested, PM me and I will send his contact info.

Thanks,

Wallace

Wallace,

just to let you know that I used all the grommets and transfers I got from you some month ago in the renovation of my Pagoda. They are and look great. A little detail that makes the difference :D

He was fine with me posting his contact information. I wanted to check first!

Pablo Tapia and is a member here @ TAPIAP. His email is  pablo@tapiagroup.com

He is going to be able to provide the Bosch relay transfers and is buying from the same source. I will still be providing the grommets.

Hi Wallace,

If you are still out there, here's another one in need of 4 relay grommets. Can you please send me a PM if you still have these available?

If Wallace no longer has these , you can purchase the grommets  from mbclassics.

I have purchased these.

I still make the grommets but are sold through either Authentic Classics or Bud's Benz. Mine do not have the brass inner piece. I believe the ones from MB Classics do have the inner piece. Although, the brass piece can easily be reused and polished to look new. Since you are in Europe, MB Classics may be less expensive.

Thank you for the inquiry,

Wallace
