Foot protector pad on tunnel carpet

Wre, do you have any insights on the rubber/plastic padding on the tunnel carpet, driver's side on late cars?

Alfred, what about my question below - can you help?

The pad on the tunnel carpet - was it there for all cars? or just early?

Pawel,
I know that my two 230SL cars had them but I am not sure whether carpets in 280SLs from the factory had them. Perhaps 49er can help.

Mike is correct, no pad. Here is a photo of my original carpet that unfortunately was torn when removed :'(. One day, i will have it repaired. I have a GAHH replacement tunnel carpet in the car now.

All 230ies and 250ies had the accelerator pedal protecting padding on the tunnel carpet on their square weave carpet. 8)

280ies with their tufting carpet never had this padding. :o
