I don't know how Hagerty could coem up with correct condition ratings based upon auction results unless they were actually there to perform close inspections. There were several Pagoda's obviosly prepped for quick sale there that looked great from even 5 foot away for most, but were very concerning when someone with a little knowledge looks closer.
There was a black 1970 pagoda that went for just under $100k that had a sharp five foot paint job and newer interior. The engine bay seemed to have been coated with a rust coat, same with the trunk and was not up to our clubs standards at all. I pulled up the trunk mat and while the left seam area had extensive coating, hard to see if it was repaired or coated, but just to the right was signifiant pitting just painted over. The worst item was the inside lip of one of the front fender where its covered by the hood had flaking rust painted over. I could have picke the rust and new paint off wiht my fingers.
To me the above items are red flags that significant rust existed elsewhere that were just patched or covered up.
I hope Hagerty puts this car in their valuations as a 3 rather than a 2 or even 1. I doubt if that pretty paint will last long.
