Coolant and lubricant

I seem to recall reading somewhere of adding an oil to the coolant sopposedly to help moving parts be kept serviceable, thermostat, waterpump, heater valve etc.
Does this idea have acceptance, or is adhering to MB coolant and maybe an MB anticorrosion additive, and regular changing of coolant the way to go ?.

I once added soluble oil to a different car's cooling system.  I think the oil attacked the rubber hoses and weakened them, causing early failure.  Maybe they would have failed anyway, but I don't add oil any more.  Regular coolant changes are the trick, every 2 - 3 years.
