Much closer on impeller project

After trying 2 different processes to get correct tapper and angle... I think we may have a winner, just need a week or two of testing...fingers crossed this will be the winner, not done still need center half moon but very excited it has been a long road, 3 different companies , just very exacting specs

Michael, you were instrumental in making this happen, you had the contacts, you were so positive that it could be done and that I had the skills to see it though.  When it got tough I was determined to justify your faith in me and see it to conclusion... well I am in the home stretch now!

A machine shop should be able to broach the center keyed hole no problem. I have a brand new pump if you need the dimensions. But most likely you already have them. Great work!

Thanks, I was just posting pictures to show I am still working on this.  Hope to have half moon and bleed off holes done before weekend then it is test,test ,test. Thank you for the offer but I actually had acquired a original NOS Bosch impeller from Germany over two years ago that is what got all this started for I then had a part # which Michael tracked down to find out indeed they had been sold separately at some point but were very very NLA.  You can see it on the computer screen from when I did the cad drawing

What is the speed of the pump and have you thought about dynamic balancing? Remember vibration increases by the square of the speed, if not properly balanced your impeller will not last very long. When I designed centrifugal compressor impellers in my earlier days we first static balanced our impellers then dynamically in an underground concrete vacuum pit. Impellers we’re mounted on specially designed mandrills for balance operations.

Now if this is a low-speed pump say 1800 rpm you might get away with static balancing, anything above that is considered high speed.

Looks like a nice reverse engineered product.

Dieter has a good point. Is it possible the bleed holes also compensate for the extra metal in the half moon broach? It is farely close to center though so dont know how much effect it would have.

I heard on those bleed holes, from a old bosch worker in broadview (they had a plant/ repair center)  here in chicagoland who told me, those holes were there if air became trapped under the impeller , which would happen if fuel running out or a stop in flow from tank causing froth in the pump.

If the current part doesn't work out I have a friend here who owns a shop that does Swiss turning for the aerospace and medical industries.  Although he has not seen the part he though it might be a possibility.

This is very very cool. I assume you will be selling these, Im "in". My current one, works, but does have some missing material from sitting.
