« on: December 01, 2018, 11:47:18 »
Could the  experts  on our Pagodas ,please confirm or other
about the finish and colour  the gas  tanks  when they left the factory.
All classics of different makes i have owned over the years are zinc grey finish, was looking at photos
i noticed  the 71 280 SL i owned about 10 years ago was grey---see photo,
and my older 65 230 SL i own now is black under seal           --- see photo.
Thank you  for your answers.

Reason i want to confirm is, i am going to drop mine in the next few weeks,so then i will   Gal--grey it in colour
thank you.

All I know is that the gas tanks were sprayed black (semigloss) when they left the factory - got grey.

Your picture looks faded/aged black. Not grey

I have a new original 82l tank here.
It is satin black except for the unpainted end section of the filler neck were the yellow zinc(or cad?) plating shows. I am not shure if the entire tank was zinc plated before paint or just the unmasked part of the filler neck.
Still a nice detail to get right if you’re doing a full tank restoration.
