Idle control solenoid sneaky repair.

It seems on all the idle control solenoids the little rubber boot is either gone or cracked and hard as a rock. I was going to try and patch my old one back together but started looking around for something I might use to replace it.  I found a commom body plug with the flange trimmed and a hole punched in the middle works pretty well.

Perhaps alternative is to buy it (A0019970681), but it is about $20...

The problem with the original boot is that the flange is positioned behind the permo-sealed front plate. To put it on, you need to remove it, which is just about impossible. You can place it on top and squish it between the mounting bracket and the solenoid. That works but that is not the way it came.

I bought one a couple years back and not sure if they are available now. But congrats on your alternative solution. It looks just fine and may outlast the original!

Exactly! The new one would fit with difficulty. If you do not do it as described above - it will be just riding on the push rod with its wider edge in the air. Therefore Svegel's solution has a lot of merit as it will provide functionality it as designed for.

My post was to notify Members - it is there in case it is needed (I checked availability last night).

I ordered one.  I will see if I can figure out a way to mount it.  $40 at retail now.  Just for fun I priced an ignition distributor.  Only $4200 at retail.

I had it PLN 80 net here, with VAT it would be close to $28.
