Gunter Engelen book
« on: January 31, 2005, 17:47:19 »
Hello,

This is my first message to this forum, and if my question is a frequent one, I apologise.

I have recently acquired a book by Gunter Engelen entitled: <Mercedes-Benz 190SL - 280SL; Vom Barock zur Pagode>. The text is in German.

Do any of you know if there is an edition of this book in English, and if so, where it can be purchased? It appears to be a major work of very high competence, but my ignorance of the German language severely limits its utility for me.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I might add that I have W112 and W109 cars, and I wish that someone would write a book about them equal in quality to Herr Engeken's SL book.

I too have a copy of this book, but to my knowledge it is not available in English, at least not yet. The tables in the back are still useful, and using an internet search for a german-english dictionary is a big help. The codes and things are sort of readable. I can tell you the title says "From the Baroque to the Pagoda". Once you get a few of the terms and such down, you can sort of sift through the data. There are whole bunch of other crazies out here to help with questions.

Welcome to the group.

Welcome to the group. Gunter Engelen book unfortunely is not published in English. So interpeting its contends becomes a challenge. You mentioned you wanted a book on the 109 & 112. I have one recently released if you email me I will look in my library and get you the author's name and reference code.

108, 109, 112 and 111 Coupes is where I learned most of the things I know about fuel injection. I had several 111 Coupes before I had 113 cars. Still have a tonne of used 108/109 parts in the barn.

One of the things on my to-do list is team up with the International 190 SL Group and approach the publisher of this great book (which I have and fortunately can grasp most of) to pursuade them to 'do' an English translation. There is certainly a large market for it. And if Laurence Meredith's book on the SL can be profitable in a Dutch translation (there are only about 20 million Dutch speakers in the world), then certainly this book can.

Greg,

Hello and welcome to the Group!  You wrote, "This is my first message to this forum, and if my question is a frequent one, I apologise."

This discussion forum has a great search tool.  Once you login, click on the "Search" link in the top right corner of the screen.  In your case, use either "Engelen" or "Vom Barock" as a search term and see what you come up with.  This site has been active for a couple years now, so almost any topic you wish to discuss has probably been discussed to some extent already.  It's great!

If you feel like introducing yourself (and reading about other members who have done so), you can use this thread:
