Recruiting new members
« on: January 20, 2005, 02:41:12 »
Hi Guys,

Just returned to grey Europe from gorgeous Sarasota.  Weather was top-down the whole two months.  Carling got lots of loving while there, from me and many strangers.

One stopped me and told me of his relative, a gentleman from Boca Grande who had just received a Pagoda from his new step-daughters.  I gave him my coordinates, and a few days later I heard from the actual owner.  Did my best sell job to get him to pay his dues to this forum. Let's hope he joins!

Now sort out that annoying humming coming from the prop shaft at high speed...

Hi Dick,

I finally got my Brussels sloooooow connection to download this, and I really enjoyed it.  Everyone should be aware that this promotional video is out there.  This group does a wonderful job.  Thanks for the action-packed footage!

Dick -- I just watched that 6 minute video.  Wow...it is just wonderful!

The whole thing is terrific, but I especially liked the driving scenes of that gorgeous blue 280SL.  Great scenery too.

Nicely done!

Thanks for the comments on the video... makes me want to run out do another.
I'm looking forward to our next Tech Session with the Alexanders.. maybe we can produce some specific technical videos to complement the technical manual that is being developed by the group.

Cees,
What ever happened to the video tapes you made during the engine rebuilds?  Did they come out good enough quailty to use?  Were you able to supplement them with additional tape while working in your garage on other engines?

Dick -- I think you should!  You obviously know how to make a great video.

I see from your profile that we are almost "neighbors".  My wife and I have had the pleasure of spending time in your area.  Tahoe, Donner pass, etc. offers some of the most breathtaking scenery on the planet.  Those dramatic settings coupled with your 280SL would make for fantastic videos & photos.

P.S.  I should talk.  Idaho's Sawtooth Mountains & Stanley Basin area (north of Sun Valley) is no slouch. ( http://www.williamjosephgallery.com/images/Artworks/WoodjpgEmailReady/Wood%209484f-Sawtooth%20Mountains-Idaho-360x288-jpg6+EW.JPG )  After we get our 280SL back in a few more months I'll have to post a few photos too.

Hey Rodd - I have started to transfer the tapes (10 hours in all) to text for the "engine rebuilding manual". They're good quality but for the manual I will be taking lots of photos that will be lit properly, at high-resolution etc. Sort of like the Haynes manual chapter on engine rebuilding, only 10 times more detailed. My only problem at the moment is time - just have not had enough of it to get very far on the project. But the tapes won't walk away and neither will my engines. Will pick it back up when things settle down for me in the next year or so (famous last words ;-)). Maybe once I get this damn poster out of the way  :D

Thanks Dick, for sharing the Pagoda video.  I was pleased and surprised to see myself, standing there, next to my friend Vincent.  The others in the photo are David and Claus. All have beautiful cars and Claus has a 5 speed.  It was nice to see my blue 250SL in the photos as well.  Great work.
