I am ready to redo the seats and upholstery in my 280SL and had been considering using Heritage Trim and Upholstery in Palm Springs because of there use of Skived leather. However, I have been trying to contact them for the past 2 weeks and they only have voicemail on their phone and they do not answer emails.

I have also noticed that they were running some pricing specials recently, so I am wondering if they are still in business?

I am also wondering if there are any other upholsterers that use skived leather?

Heritage Trim and Upholstery is very much alive and well. Tony called while I was on the road this afternoon and we had a long talk. Apparently they had some kind of a glitch with the online form that I filled out to send him my request and he did not receive it. Same for my email. But all is well with Heritage. They have many Pagodas in the shop right now.

I talked to Tony back in February. He seemed very enthusiastic and friendly. Turns out he spent some of his teenage years here in Southwestern Ontario. I wish it wasn't so far to PagodaFest, so I could get a chance to meet him face-to-face

Spoke with Tony again last night and he discovered that his server was full thus not allowing any new messages through. So, if anyone else has sent an email the the “info” address or left a query on the webpage, that is why it hasn’t been answered.

Regarding the skived leather, most good leather suppliers can do this. I believe GAHH might have biggest skive machine and can do 14" wide x 36" long. That is about as large of a piece as most do. I sent a potion of my leather to GAHH for skiving and came out well.

Keep in mind that there is only a limited need for skived material for these cars. You only use it when you have to (tight corners, radius', etc.) because it has far less strength and less resistance to tearing than the standard thickness.

Heritage makes the point that Mercedes used it on the piece over the instrument cluster and other places that have curves like that.

It is pretty cool to watch what they can do with leather, and what they have found when replacing the coverings on the dash and instrument binnacle.
They can also "weld" leather pieces, recreating some very nice touches.

No, I didn't do the dash pads myself but am aware of the process. The W111s have some leather on the dash face and the skived leather is also used there. If you don't, the glove box will not fit correctly. I did glue the dash face pieces on however. You have to be super careful not the stretch it too much or the finish color on top will look ripped. Yep, the fit on these dashes is that close. 

The hardest application on the W111 is the instrument binnacle and skived material is a must here. No way could I do that and left to an expert.

What kind of a number did you come up with for an insurance estimate for shipping purposes for your interior?
