BARRETT-JACKSON CAR SHOW
« on: January 09, 2005, 10:36:33 »
Are any pagoda owners going to the Barrett-Jackson Car Show in Scottsdale, Arizona?  I will be there January 26 to 30, 2005.  It would be nice to have lunch togeter.  Is anyone familiar enough with the show to suggest a spot inside the grounds?

I was at BJ in Scottsdale last year. From what I saw, the only food inside the show is "stand in line at the carnival trailers" in other words, cheese steaks, pizza and funnel cakes served through the window. Well, maybe not all of it is quite that bad but there are definitely no sit down to be waited on options that I saw.

Don't let that spoil the fun. The show is great. Unfortunately this year there only appears to be one Pagoda going across the block, so far, at least. More could be added between now and then, but there won't be many. Last year, I think there were four.

The cars are great, the people watching is outstanding and the atmosphere, for car lovers, is a lot of fun.

You'll do a lot of walking around at the show so I encourage valet parking, if you can make your way up there. Otherwise, you've got a pretty substantial hike from your car the entrance.

Enjoy it!

If you get a bidders paddle which is about 300 bucks you can go to the big opening on Wendsday night. Pretty much a white shirt and black tie deal, you can eat and drink for free up untill you can't stand. I saw more high class women walking around in there than I could count. Unbelievable! I saw Carrol Shelby's 80th birthday party. At least 5,000 people under one big tent.

You also get better parking just inside of the front gate, you can go into the bidders area and walk right up on the stage, be on TV, meet imortant people, walk around in the restricted areas and look at the '' nice '' cars and you can go into the bidders area and have a free drink and something to eat. Oh, and you can bring a guest with you.

Only low priced cars go through on Thursday. Cheapest stuff might be 3 or 4 K. Anyone can get into the areas ouside to look at the cars with only bidders in the restricted areas. Over 90% of cars sold go through as no reserve. Lots of drunks with money by Sat night and Sunday wanting to play cars.

I heard from the guy I bring parts to have stripped (he is attending this year and has been for more the 20 years) that now BJ is really only looking for extremely rare cars or rare cars.  Makes sense since most auctions around here don't nearly bring the coin that BJ does.  His friend had his car accepted, which is a 1970 Chevelle LS6.  They only made a handful of these cars.
It will be on Speedvision again, I assume.

Hi all,
I went to the anual Barrett-Jackson auction last Friday the 28th just to look at relevent cars.  I didn't have anything to sell there due to being busy with a certain customer '71 Pagoda project.  I took photos and notes and have put them on a web page in case anyone is interested in my take on this subject.  You can find it at: http://www.motoringinvestments.com/B-J2005.htm    Sorry, there is only one Pagoda.
