'68 250SL Locking gas cap
« on: August 01, 2020, 01:55:06 »
It's unlocked and I can't get the gas cap off.
Put the key in, turn to the left, lock disengages,
cap spins freely but does not release or engage threads(?).
Tried pushing down as i turned but no luck.
Anybody else have this problem?

If it spins freely then its locked.  when it is engaged to remove it, it can be really stiff if you have not been putting a small amount of white grease on the seal.  I suggest you try harder to get it off and then grease it.

Thanks Garry! I'd been doing it backwards.
Forgot the Cardinal Rule - Lefty Loosey, Righty Tighty.
It was stiff but finally got it open.
Will put white grease on my list.
Thanks again.
