zip tie for holding fuel line ?
« on: July 08, 2019, 17:34:32 »
hello
so my 66 230 has this reusable zip tie that holds the fuel line to the canister that goes over the fuel pump. (photo)

I cannot find any reference to it on the SLS or other pagoda parts supplier web sites.

is this supposed to be there ?

either way i need to find one to secure the fuel line from the tank to the pump

thanks in advance
matt

A 136 995 00 37 clamp fuel hose to body ($30). As of ident. no.: 042 007205 ALSO INSTALLED ON 006069 EXCEPT FOR: 007216, 007232. This is what EPC is saying (not on EPC picture).
What you show on the picture may be (not sure) A0019974190, which is ca 10cm plastic zip clamp.

Your car would have come with a long fuel pump and a different fuel pump shield(Coffee can).  Not saying the zip tie is correct but I have never seen one used there.  I think someone drilled a hole in the can and stuck one in there.  If memory serves the fuel line goes from the tank directly to the pump with no clamps then the output from the pump to the engine goes up to the clamp Pawel suggested and then to the hard line.

hello
the first 2 photos below are what i have,   Tom at the classic center has them  part number 114-997-05-90.

i did some research and found the third photo below of a 66 230 sl.  it has a different fuel pump cover than the one on my car.

mine just has one large cut out on the back side.  (will post a photo later)

since this car was completely torn down and rebuild in the late 78's by  MB in Sindelfingen i am not surprised to find some alterations to what was original.

thanks again

Matt, the zip you are showing came later, i think. The one that is correct (I think) for late Pagodas does not have the fixture you use to anchore it in a hole in chassis - those types of clamps with various length I have e.g. in my 1991 W463. I am sure they were used earlier, but I do not think for W113 (not sure though!).

The one I posted the poor picture of does not have that fixture. It is a simple ribbed plastic strap, re-usable.

I am not aware of any plastic tie near the fuel lines (does not mean they were not there, I just did not find them). i posted the number as you asked about it. But the only "clamp" there as per parts list (other than the hose clamps of course) is the metal clamp Shvegel is describing and you have on my photo. It screws to the floor somewhere (do not remember exactly where) and holds fuel pump-fuel filter line. I will double check that.

I can give you part number for the clamp (or tie) with the fixture that you show when I am back in my garage - I have them, can give you length too.

If you want to have the fuel pump cover correct, please look up in the Technical Manual which one is correct for your car.

There are also threads, including one I started, talking about the fuel pump type, type of cover and fuel lines set up. I have picture of mine, but it is a short style for late 280SL.

So there is a decision point:
1. You want to stay with what you have (that may not be pure and correct) and you need a part number for the tie you have (strap with fixture) - I can give you part num ber and description end of week when I am in my garage or I can give you 80% correct part number later today from EPC. Or just go with what you received from Tom, which is, I am sure, the correct part number of tie you asked for.
2. You want to re-create the exact and correct set up and cover of your fuel pump (probably long style) - then a bit of a study and questions will determine what parts you need. If you already have a short style pump, you probably need to stay with what is correct for short style as far as cover is concerned.

Pawel
hi,
thank for the reply, for now i will just get the car back together.

looks like i have some research to figure out what is the correct set up.

a quick check on the SLS web site shows i have the 70's and later cover vs the early version.
i am going to assume at some point the fuel pump and or cover were changed.

much appreciated.

The metal clamp I posted picture of that is expensive at MB can be bought in SLS much cheaper. It does not look the same, but it costs less.

I will try my best to send the part number for the clamp with fixture from EPC (I just cannot verify exactly how it looks there) later today, when I stop drinking (i am on holidays) and back in hotel where my comp is.

It’s common for the short pump to be swapped in for the long pump. Since the short pump is the current Mercedes replacement what you have is from a judging standpoint “correct”.  The cover you have is needed for the short pump as well.

This is the one I wrote about with the fixture for the hole in the chassis or other part.
