Trunk & Soft Top Case DB 164 Paint
« on: August 24, 2019, 23:52:21 »
I know there have been many discussions on trying to find the proper paint for the trunk and other areas that were painted the "Dark Gray" DB 164 Color. Has anyone found a source for an off the shelf, pre-mixed spray paint that matches the DB 164 color? I need to re-pain my soft top case, before I install the replacement pad and felt..

Not sure how this is in the USA, but in Europe the specialized car paint retailer can mix the right color if you asked them for DB 164.

Not so easy here. However, I discovered that this was a car color for Mercedes in 1961 and so some of the suppliers that deal with spray paint for the old cars may offer it. I am looking into that.

Tom Kizer posted the paint code for DB164 here:

Any good paint shop should be able to match this.

Shvegel also posted a photo of the paint he used.

It looks like there are two formulas for that paint on the attachment. It looks like they would result in different colors. Also, they are in German, so I am not sure how easy it would be for a local paint shop to translate the data?

I went to the PPG Automotive paint store and showed them that label and they were able to make me spray cans of the DB 164 paint, although that is not what they call it. You have to show them the label and they can make it up from the information there.
