Greetings !

I own a Mercedes 1963 model 230 SL chassis number 113042-20-002864 ( Right hand drive )

The top part of the dash board in my car has been modified by the previous owner.

He has actually modified the top which originally has to be, "Dash bows, speaker grille in wood finish and the balance in Vinyl, into a complete one piece wooden dash top with-out dash bows or speaker grille. ( The space where the dash bows should fit is emty )

The bottom part remains original ( Blue vinyl with original chrome in the front which is still in very original shape )

My car's exterior is mid night blue with matching blue interior.

Can some one help me find the Dash bows, speaker grille and the console box for my car and most importnatly I need the "Vinyl" top of the dash.

If some one can help me find the shell ( RHD ) I can cover it with matching blue vinyl locally.

Look forward to your kind help.

Lashan.

Lashan,

This is an easy one.  All it takes is money.  Contact any of the normal suppliers (Miller, Bud's etc.) and they all carry reproduction dash wood pieces, including the console box.  These are only two suppliers: there are others, such as Heritage Woodworks.  Look in our links for this information or do an internet search.

Michael,

And uhm no!
This is unfortunately not an easy one. Lashan's car is a right hand drive and the wooden parts are of course different. It might be easier to find these parts in England or perhaps Australia. There are some recommended restorers in the UK like Roger Edwards who is the UK Mercedes Benz Club SL adviser. His phone no is (UK) 0181 9023509.
Otherwise Lashan can try to get a (poor) left-hand drive wooden bows set and get a right hand side set custom-made mirror-like.

The same with the upper dash part (top) although that is only alumi(ni)um sheet metal which should be easier to get used than the wooden parts.

Good luck!

Lashan,

One more thing ... VIN 002864 is clearly a 1964 230 SL, built in March or April or so.

Dear All,
Many thanks for all your help, I will try calling the UK and see if I can get the parts. I'm sure the speaker grill and the bows will not be much of a problem but The aluminium dash top would be difficult. If any of you have some information regading the Alum dash top please let me know.

Thanks again,
Lashan.
