Chassis / Frame Dimensions

Hi All,

I bought a Tru-Way frame dimension chart for 1963 220b, 220Sb and 220Seb models.

Does anybody know if this is also suitable for the 220se coupe and cabrio?

I wanted to check some dimensions and the first one I took was between the bolt centres which locate the front leaf springs. According to the diagram this should be 750mm (375mm from each bolt centre to the car centerline). When I measured mine it was an inch wider (775mm)

I would be VERY grateful if anybody out there with a Coupe or Cabrio could measure and confirm the distance on their vehicle.

Thanks as always for finding the time to reply. If this is what people refer to as the BBB I do have an electronic copy but cannot find this information listed. If anybody has a BBB with the chassis dimension details for a W111 220SE/C please could you PM me?

I have one of those books and Joe is right, the information is there: 382 ± 1 mm for 220 SEB/C. Obviously this is still narrower than yours so that's a little puzzling.
The book states 375 mm  ± 1 mm for 220 B, SB, SEB 1st version
The book is not the BBB, it's much smaller and contains only specifications, not procedures.

Thanks a lot mate, you have just made my day. The reference I had said 375mm +/-1mm.

382mm +/-1mm certainly swings it back in my favour. If I measure it real carefully I might just about creep in to that.

I will be looking for one of these manuals if anybody has one for sale.

These Booklets are often found on Ebay. Be sure to get the correct one since they were published almost every year or two for the different models. There is an electronic file around somewhere that someone made of one of these. Might be in the our Technical Manual?

On the technical front does anybody know the correct method to determine the centre line of the car? The frame dimensions are referenced to this. It would be possible therefore to have the correct distance between the bolts (which is what I was measuring) but unequal values for the two sides with respect to bolt to centre line, meaning the chassis is not straight.
