1970 280Sl M130
So I was changing my oil and saw metal bits
Engine runs fine but long story short I pulled the engine and the crank last bearing toward transmission is totally shot and almost disintegrated.
Pulled crank out and sent to machine shop.
Now I need .50mm bearing set
The engine was rebuilt 10 years ago
Btw presently compression is 150psi all 6
Q-1. Does that sound about right?
(.50mm)
Q-2 What could be the cause of one bearing failure ?
TIA

How was your oil pressure? Did you see it decline over time? The bearing failure could be the result of the bearing not breaking in properly, possible debris contamination lack of lubrication, or improper installation. Be sure to clean all oil galleries and the oil cooler and line or it can happen again.

I've had the car since 1992- oil pressure great and no significant decline. I use 20W50 all the time and compression is 150 all 6
driveability and performance great.
I'm thinking it's due to improper install of that bearing- (didn't confirm proper seating before torque down?)
My question is going to oversize .50mm seems right?

The damage to the crankshaft will dictate the size of the new bearings. Your machinist should be able to tell you which size the crankshaft will clean up to.
