removing chrome pieces from the dash

Hello, new member with lots of questions.  However I will try to limit the number of questions per month.

I am in the process of removing my dash pads and dash wood to send to buds benz for re covering / restoring.  I'd like to send my chrome out to graves plating for restoration as well.
I'm stuck on how to remove the chrome around the vent levers in the center of the car and  I am also stuck on how to remove the vent assy's on each end of the dash.  I can get to the assy's however the I cannot figure out how to remove them. I do see a screw inside the large assy at 11 pm however when it was loosened the assy did not loosen.  also i see a pin sticking thru the dash above the small vent , however i do not want to push on it unless i am supposed to.

Hey Matt. Welcome. Although I have not done it, I believe the chrome pieces around center vent levers are held on by small nuts from behind the dash. You can get to them once the glovebox and clock are out of the way. I also understand the bolts can break so be careful.

Have you already received a quote on replating these? I only ask because mine need replating as well.

Hey Matt,

Just put all of my parts back on my 1970 280SL.  The center chrome pieces (behind the heater levers) are held in place by nuts which are secured from the dash inside to studs mounted on the chrome pieces. I think there are 3 10mm nuts total. The clock, radio and speaker need to come out to allow access.  I imagine you have these out already.  You also need to remove the blower switch which is secured from the front by a slotted chrome nut.  The side vents on mine are secured by pins which are fixed to the vent.  Two per vent.  They get inserted into a friction clip of some type mounted in the dash metal behind the vent.  The vent needs to be pried off very gently and evenly so as to not break off the pins.  Their strong but over doing one side and then coming back to the other may be too much stress.  Do each pin a little at a time.
