So, I have the "Service Manual, Maintenance, Tuning, Unit Replacement, Passenger Cars starting August 1959".  I was recently referenced to Section 03/4-1-4/7 for the Rear Main Seal installation.  This BBB shows section 03 as "Crank Assembly" but it only has 03/10 Removal and Installation of Counterweight and Vibration Damper on Crankshaft, 03/12 Replacement of Front Oil Seal for Crankshaft, then goes into Jobs 05.
Are there multiple issues of the BBB and I only have this one?  It appears to be complete, .i.e. it doesn't physically look as though pages are missing from the binding.

You are not missing any pages.  When you say you were referenced to Section 03/4-1-4/7 I'm not sure what you mean.  What referenced that?  Are you trying to replace the rear main seal on the engine?  Is there one?   I'm not a good mechanic but I do have both BBBs (you shouldn't need the later one and you have the early one).   If I can help I will but not sure about the terminology or what you are trying to do.  Others will probably understand your issue better.

Hello Harry,

You have the early BBB, the reference is for the late BBB. Most likely you do not have the special tool. The late BBB shows using a wooden hammer handle to work the seal down into the groove. See if this "manufacturer installation instruction" helps...………….

Thanks all, very much.  Scoot - I am reassembling the engine after having the block machined to first OS.  (So expect more questions as I progress!)
Joe - thank as always.  The engine builder that did the machine work installed the crank and pistons, so the block half of the seal is in.  I was more concerned about what length of exposed seal to leave above each the block and the pan .  The block has maybe 1/16 " from the builder.

1/16" protruding is way too much, you should leave less than half that protruding on both parting faces of the crankcase and oil pan.

.023"inch is 0.58 mm which is less than 1/32",(The coloured illustration mentions 0.70mm but stick with 0.58mm  or 0.023" inch)

Get a cheap digital micrometer, find some material .023"inch or 0.58 mm thick with which to cut out the template as shown in the coloured illustration and pare it off with a craft knife as shown and you will be bang on. The 2 half rings will squeeze together nicely.
