I just made myself a clawfoot spanner by using 2 x $1 parts from a recycler. 1 x 17mm spanner and 1 x 3/8' drive socket set extension and welded them together with a stainless steel arc welder electrode.  Thought it might be of interest to others who are handy.

Or you can buy a 17mm crowfoot wrench from Ebay for $2.50 plus $2.25 shipping. If you don't have a 3/8 extension already you will have to buy one.

Unfortunately I don't think that will help with removing the injector lines from the pump, which you can do with an open end wrench if you are willing to do them all, back to front...   Hazet 4550 - I want one.

Hi,

Scott is right, the Hazet tool is perfect, and its versatile and in addition to injector lines it useful for getting to other tight spots as well.

Very good, in the first instance the seller does not ship to NZ, and usually if they do the shipping is north of $US30.  Not a problem if you live in the northern hemisphere though.

The injector pipe nuts on the injector pump have never been a problem because you can approach them at right angles.

Good job on crafting a special tool.   Sure, you can buy something similar, but there is a certain satisfaction that comes from making a solution on your own - particularly when you need it right away.

The best price I've seen in the US for the Hazet 4550-1 is $130.

Raymond has it correct. The Hazet 4550 is the correct tool, I purchased mine in the 70's for my diesels and I don't remember what I paid.
The place to call is Baum Tools in Sarasota FLA. the have an extensive collections of german tools.
There # is 800-848-6657.

I just contacted Baum Tools (Sarasota) and they have that tool.
It is made by KOKEN (Japan) and it costs $46.46.
If you want to see it
1-Go to Google
2-Click on Images
3- enter:  KOKEN3300FN-17

Baum # is 800-848-6657
This is called a flared nut wrench.

Please advise if anyone has purchased one.

That search turned up one at ToolPan for $35.  However, the problem with that design is that there is not enough vertical clearance from the hex end to the drive end.  The Hazet is offset.  The cheaper one doesn't look to me as if it would clear the fuel lines.

I would agree with Ray, the MB tool is longer to allow for clearance on the pump line connection and the injector connection.

Looking at the picture it did not look  high enough also the curve is not there like the Hazet tool.
I agree. It probably is too short.

I'm impressed with Rutger's "creation", well done, my welding skills are not that good.

The Hazet tools are available on Amazon DE at approx. $50- each. The 4550-1 is slightly longer (120mm) than the 4550 (115mm), both fit the fuel injector line = 17mm nuts. I have both tools. I also have the Hazet 4550-2 which fits the fuel injectors = 19mm.

Best,

Mike
