1966 230SL engine stall & CO too high issue

Hi there!
As the cylinder head was leaking coolant, I have replaced brand new cylinder head and followed "W113 Basic Fuel Injection Linkage Adjustment and Idle Adjustment Procedures" from pagoda SL group technical manual.

When the temperature is 180°F, ignition timing is 5 BTDC, CO is 5-6% and idle 800 RPM, the following issues appear:

1) after I adjusted the CO to 3.5 - 4%, the engine will stall when I decelerate.

2) When I start the car in the morning with environmental temperature being 62°F, the fast idle is only 950RPM.

How should I adjust the fast idle to 1100 RPM and CO to 3- 4% without engine stalled? Should I adjust to the correct RPM first or the correct CO first?

Any comment will be appreciated!

Thanks for your reply.

When I use smoke analyser to check intake manifold leakage, i discovered that the butterfly shaft contacting switch for automatic has a bit leaking.

May I know if it is a normal circumstance?

They all leak a little. As long as the shaft has no excessive play or binding then it is nothing to worry about.

Here is the data I got:

1500 rpm 9.5% CO
2000 rpm 8.5% CO
2500 rpm 0.4% CO
3000 rpm 0.1% CO
Idling in gear 1000 rpm 0.1% CO
Idling off gear 800 rpm 6.7% CO

Thanks a pagoda member Fatboy working with me for the better performance.
 
I think the constant speed solenoid open more butterfly than the FIP, which makes 800-2000 are too rich. How can I only make CO at 800 - 2000 rpm leaner without affecting CO at other rpm?

When I perform the split linkage test, I tried to open the butterfly slightly, and the rpm did up a bit. That means it is too rich when idling.

Also, the car seems has a slow response to gear switch among 4, Neural and R position.
Any idea? Thanks
