grease cap removal tool

I just received the latest issue of the Star Magazine and in the technical column written by George Murphy there is a question as to removing the front wheel bearing grease caps. George mentions that there a specific tool that graps the caps on the rolled edge designed for pulling and pushing the cap.

I talked with George Murphy Technical director of the Mercedes-Benz club America. Geroge said carfully using a flat screw driver will remove the cup and to reinstall he recommended going to home depo plumming department and getting a peice of PVC that fits down over the club and flang and tapping it in place with a peice of wood.

sounds like a plan.

A bearing separator and a slide hammer will work nicely to remove the caps. The PVC pipe trick works great for driving them back on.

Nah, too complicated. I just use a big hammer and pound it off.

Actually, if you screw one of the lug crews back in and use a hooked wrench it will pop right off.
