Gas pedal adjustment
« on: April 22, 2020, 19:18:47 »
Hi everyone,
I just got my 71 280 SL back after a major rip off (Body work where shop removed engine to keep car hostage) and then having fuel injector pump rebuilt by  mechanic.
I'm now having an issue where if I use the gas pedal it does not move the linkages anywhere near as far as when I manually move the linkages from under the hood.
Any idea's on how to adjust this to get full throttle from gas pedal?

Check some pictures of the linkage and make sure that they put the linkage back together correctly.  And that they didn't bend anything putting it all back together.

There should be lots of photos on the site.

Providing a picture of your linkages in your post may help

According to my fairly limited knowledge it is often the carpet that is in the way...

Can be a kick-down switch that is mis-adjusted if your car is an automatic.

But also: gas pedal adjustment is part of the linkage tour. It is one of the last steps of the linkage adjustment. There is procedure to do that.

If you collected the car after such repair it would probably make sense to go through the full linkage tour procedure, including gas pedal. You need to be a Full Member to access the Linkage Tour in Technical Manual. I think most experienced Members here would highly recommend to do that.

There is a gas pedal height adjustment on the firewall inside the engine compartment.

Loosen bolt #51 and adjust. You might also have to unhook the spring.
