Wishbone & Threaded Bushing
« on: May 23, 2020, 16:35:06 »
How do I get the wishbone & threaded bushing to align properly to engage both outer and inner threads without jamming short of seating?

I had that issue with the upper wishbone at the inner part.

I concluded that something was out of spec with the wishbone as the threaded bushing can't really deform. I bought another wishbone and it was better.

However I found that it was still difficult to pump grease through this particular interface.

Sorry I haven't helped much, just sympathising.

Hope somebody more knowledgeable can help us both out. It really bugs me that greasing is difficult because it locks the movement of the wishbone as the grease is trapped in the cap and won't compress.

CJ, are you having trouble with the inner or outer wishbone bushing?

On the outer lower, I use a "C" clamp to hold the two sides so that the bolt does not push the second side out before threading in.

Hi Joe,

Have you ever come across the problem I have?

The upper inner pivots freely but doesn't take grease well. With a lot of squeezing on the grease gun it comes through and out of the little rubber seal, but only with a lot of pressure behind it. Moving the arm is then difficult because the grease is completely filling the threaded bushing and won't compress at all. With a few pumps up and down it gradually frees off. The other upper wishbone takes the grease really well, easy to pump and comes straight through.

To clarify I have my subframe off the car without stub axles fitted, hence I can pivot the wishbones by hand.

If there is anything to try, now is the time before I refit the subframe to the car.

Peter, Yes very unusual, I would suspect it to be ok. Just needs to break-in a bit.
