vehicle speed sensor

Has anyone installed a 'vehicle speed sensor' on their Pagoda? Something along these lines

I'm trying to figure out a specific unit that would be an easy fit. The idea is to generate a wave pulse for speed feedback to a cruise control unit. I prefer to use something like this, rather than mount magnets on the driveshaft.

Thanks Chris. I ended up using the unit from Sailes; this was for a cruise control installation. It was pretty seamless apart from having to install it at the back of the speedometer.

That could be useful for others attempting this. I looked around for info on the VDO sensor. As far as I can figure out, it's VDO p/n 2152.30300000 but I can't find a place to buy it. Some posts said it was NLA. Any additional info would help.

I coudn't find it either. Old GM cars used similar sensors (GM 90148828*), you should check if it has the same size for the speedo access (M18 x 1,5).
Technical specifications of the VDO sensor: 100 mV needle impulse, 13V, 17 mA, 6 impulses per rev.

That sensor does look interesting, and would likely work if the threads matched. Originally, I thought it was unlikely for a GM product to have metric threads, but I now see it's the European GM. It looks like you can get this VSS for under $10, which is less than a tenth what I paid for the Sailes sensor. I may order one just out of curiosity...

I went ahead and ordered one of these sensors from China (P/N 90148828); it cost $7. I just got it today and tried it out. It fits. That is, it's got the correct thread/diameter and size of the square drive shaft. So my guess is that it should work. The only issue will be to reverse-engineer it to figure out how many pulses per rev it puts out. I should be able to do that when I get access to tools at work.

If this turns out to work---and it seems like it will---it would be a much cheaper option than the Sailes sensor I bought.

I haven't made progress on this due to covid. I need to hook it up to an oscilloscope and I don't have access to these tools at work. Hopefully soon...
