Kinds of Seat Belts

I have been told there are 2 types of 3 point seat belts available.

One is the Mercedes (with kit)and the other is a generic one which can be 'welded'.

I recently met a mechanic who did not want to place them in.

My Question is 1.'is it a knowledge issue where only some know how to fix it. 2.Do they get attached to the side rails or the floor. and 3
Is there a diff. on the original vs generic in terms of safety.

Pls advise.

MB has a bulletin showing how they should be installed.  I would assume this is for a particular name brand to style seat belt.

All the 113 cars I have seen have a provision for 3 point seat belts.  I do not know about the very early cars but from 65 on there are 3 points to attach seat belts.  

The earlier cars had 2 attachment points in the floorboards of the car and one high up on the pillar just to the outside of the shoulder.  Look for the depression in the upholstery that covers the pillar.  There is an atachment point just behind this depression.  Later cars had one attachment point on the driveshaft tunnel and another on the outside rail instead of in the floorboard.  

No welding is needed to install seatbelts in  the car, unless yo do not like the attachment points provided by Mercedes.

I just installed a rebuilt set of kangols in our 66 230sl, the car had lap belts previously, so these are quite a step up.  All in all, I spent 1 hour doing the job, it was remarkably simple, a tiny cut in the leather for the upper mounts was all I needed to do.
