Sell It in Europe!
« on: April 13, 2005, 16:28:29 »
Don't know who recognizes whom, but I've posted pictures of my '67 230SL here before (www.theResearchSource.net/230SL.htm) and I'm thinking very seriously about selling it.  I'm also thinking about spending maybe as much as a couple of months in, probably mostly Germany, this Fall.  So, maybe I should just bring the car over there and sell it.  It would seem like, particularly with the dollar so weak, I could really subsidize the trip.  But, while I know people who have done this a thousand years ago, now I know nothing.  It would be easiest to try and find a buyer and then just bring it over?; or, I could just take it and try and sell it, but where, and how?  I'm in Colorado, should I drive it to LA or TX?  Etc. Etc. Etc.  I'm going to start with some of the European websites and dealers I've seen...  (BTW, this car is/was a Euro.)  Any advice?  How can I learn more about how to do this?

Why not just sell it online and you will get buyers from around the world.  Why limit yourself to Germany? I recently sold a car to a guy in Germany and he did not see the car until almost a month after the sale. I got my money and the transportion company picked up the car from my driveway to take it to LA. Nice and easy. Why deal with the headaches of transportation, custom, taxes, etc. if you don't have to?

Thanks!  By online I'm thinking you mean ebay which I frankly don't know how to do and am not sure I want to do.  Once I get an ad or webpage in order I'm prepared to offer it "online".  No, I'm not committed to Germany--just that I think I'll be there, I speak the language, etc.  I saw some dealers in Europe on this board in the past but have been looking around and can't find them now--I'd like to speak with or e-mail them...

Try to tap it into www.mobile.de it is the largest car sales database in Europe with more than a million cars. It is particularly aimed at the German market, but people from all over Europe use it.

That is a great site great site and an education in that market; here's another one (also available in English):

http://www.mirbach.de/main.asp?main=markenregister_liste&marke=1&suchtyp=&Standardtyp=15&nav=1

I don't think there's much question that the demand and prices are greater and the 230s and 250s are doing absolutely fine.  I was also curious about BMW prices and may have an alternative plan for my SL.

Before someone mentioned this site I was not familiar with the name Pagoda.  Now I'm convinced it's legit.
