Another addition to the SL family
« on: October 27, 2020, 00:59:41 »
Well it was too good to pass up.....
Picked up a 1991 500SL from a deceased estate.

It was a Japanese spec car - factory RHD with factory AMG kit and loads of options.
Only 90,000kms. Car is in excellent order and that M119 engine is intoxicating

All I need now is a nice 107 to have the three best SLs - W113, R107 & R129  :D

My step mom's 75+ yr old neighbor has one of these that he bought slightly used 25+ yrs ago and when it was in the shop for a tuneup last summer, the kids paid to have the exhaust swapped out for some fancy custom setup and chipped it.    The car sounds like a F1 race car - makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.

Hi Ian & JN

Thanks for the replies!

There are a few 500SLs (R129) that I have seen locally with different exhaust set ups. They range from tasteful to outlandish :)

I will settle for a nice free flowing rear muffler that gives a nice tone and decent burble under load.

This Jap spec version does not have catalytic converters or emission control (factory set up). Not sure if this creates any extra hp, but the car really has some grunt.

Regards
Franjo

I would go for the no CC and  No Emissions version, if I could get away without regulations,

So Ian I see you own and Electa Glide. do you ride it often?
