Steering Wheel

In August forum there was a good discussion how to refurbish a steering wheel.
Black wheel on my 250sl needs tiding up. A bit reluctant to write the next sentence. But I will ask. The wheel to be covered with white leather by the upholsterers.
Is this a silly thought ?

If you do that then you can drive your car only while wearing white driving gloves.

Your car, do what you want with it but if it's an ivory wheel, good luck getting a matching leather cover. If it's a black wheel, easy match
And if it was a "not quite right" match (white on ivory) I know that would annoy me. Have you ever properly cleaned your current wheel with a clean cloth? They get filthy

As said before, it is your car.

I have been through phases on how I wanted things done, ultimately decided to have visual as original.

I would decide that first. That will drive all other decisions. Sonner or later you will get that wheel the way you decide. You will either buy a new wheel (this is what I did) or fix it yourself, or find a place who will fix it one winter.

White leather - again, as for the looks - totally up to you. As for practicalities - a "forget it" for me.

Funny thing - I just found a guy in Poland who will refurbish my old steering wheel for about $120. I have seen his work with wood and steering wheels on facebook.

you don't need the upholsterer, just get wheelskins.  I did mine 13 years ago on a perfect wheel.  https://wheelskins.com/original

I will take this topic a bit further.
My car is silver 180G. Fully resprayed by the restorers. Going for red leather upholstery.
My plan “ is” to get the wheel fully covered with ivory leather. Also to cover the top part of the steering column in the same leather. May be the sun visors as well.

I would appreciate honest comments. No offence taken.

I have a 180G with black interior. My sunvisors are light grey, which was one of the original colors, and subtle. I got a black wheelskin for the steering wheel. My choice is always for less bright, simple and subtle.
With the usual proviso on this forum, "it's your car, so do what you want," since you ask, I'll throw in my 2 cents.
I'd recommend minimizing the number of colors on the car. You have silver grey, with red interior, now you want to add white.
I think that this will be overly bright for your car, and will be the first thing noticed about the car. And this doesn't even take into account the wear/dirt attraction. Again, just my opinion.
What color is the padding on the dash? Probably black?
If it were me, I'd go with black steering wheel with black pad in the center.

My car has the same original setup as your car. Black MB Tex. interior. Black wheel.
Thanks for your honest opinion. You seem to have sorted my confusion.
The interior looks a bit tatty specially with the new outside.
I am going for black leather interior. Black steering. The carpets are worn. What type of carpets your car has.

That's always a problem - once you make one item new, it makes everything else look older!
I have the original carpet - charcoal/black (although faded) I need to deep clean the carpet to freshen it up
