Factory engine manual.

Hi all. It is my first post here. That day has finally arrived. Pagoda project is now the reality. Equipped with with related experience, MB manuals and resources on this site I hope for it to be a big success.
Never less, I already have first question;
While looking for engine specific (M127.II) shop manual, I came across this;

I’ll purchase it later today but I would like to know if there is anything else with detailed information on the subject?

Hm... Mark,

The only real manuals you need to get
are the both BBB from the factory.

And...,
if you want, perhaps the Haynes manual.

There is no extra separate M127 manual for our engines around,
at least not specific to the M127II (230 SL engine).
All info necessary for that engine is in the BBB "Passenger Cars from 1959 - 1967.

... BBB meaning Big Blue Book, the official (haha) name given by Daimler Benz to the factory manual (or was it David Pease?)

The teilekatalog Baumuster W113 and Motor M130.983 (280SL) helped me a lot during the restauration.

Hi,
You can look at the BBB and other useful documents online, see

But because people have found ways to download these service manuals as PDF's for commercial distribution, as a result these flipbooks have been taken off-line for now.
But registered users can access the flipbooks again if they have applied to join the "Flipbook Lexikon" in their user profile (control center).

Hi guys , do you know if it’s still possible to have a re print of the original owners manual in Italian ?maybe from the local mb dealer is still possible ?
I found on ebay some original print in Italian language and they ask more than 400€.
Maybe a re print is a better option .

Once you have them, be prepared to be disappointed by the lack of information about the engine. I have both and work(ed) on a 2.8L and found the Haynes manual more useful than the BBBs

not sure if its the same issue but the BBB I purchased only contains a fraction of the information compared the the online flipbook that WRe is referring to above. I believe the three original volumes are condensed into one and sold as the BBB now.

What can I say, I like reading.

The early 1959 book contains some information about 230SL and the later book for 280SL's should not be used on the 230 models. The torque spec page and some values are completely different and the 280 book won't have that info. Actually, I've found that an old Glenn's MB repair book to be as good as any. It has some really good basic 101 troubleshooting info that I still refer to from time to time.
